Cot Mattress
Having chosen your baby cot you will now need to choose your cot mattress.
Firstly you will need to decide whether you would like a spring cot mattress, also known as a sprung cot mattress, a coir mattress or a foam cot mattress.
Spring cot mattresses are usually more expensive than the foam cot mattresses but less expensive than coir mattresses. They have a coiled spring core with padding of foam and felt either side. There is usually a cotton finish on one side of the mattress and a wipeable cover on the other side. with their being one side of the mattress that allows it to breath and one side that allows it to be easily wiped clean the versatility of this mattress appeals to parents.
Foam Mattresses are athe cheaper option of the three cot mattresses available. They tend to be made from a single layer of foam with a waterproof finish to protect the foam from babys little accidents in the night. They tend to be good value for money, are easy to keep clean with the surface being wipeable and they are generally comfortable. However some parents raise concerns about how clammy they make the baby as their is no ventilation in the mattress.
Made from a mixture of different materials and with a core of coconut fibre the Coir Cot Mattress has a surface finish that is easily wipeable and the mixture of fibres within the mattress allow it to breathe with ease. They tend to be firmer than both the Foam Cot Mattress and the Sprung Cot Mattress and will hold their shape better making it a better option for those families planning on using their cot mattress for a second child. However the additional durability and quality is reflected in the cost.
