One of the first items that expectant parents will buy is a baby cot and there are many baby shop and retail outlets that now sell baby cots and baby goods.

Although some people believe there is some truth in the suspicion that it is bad luck to bring baby goods in the house before the baby is born many baby shops offer the service of purchasing your baby furniture and only delivering it when the cot is required. A baby cot tends to be sold without the cot mattress and cot bedding so these items tend to be additional items to purchase although some baby shops will offer package deals on baby furniture where they throw in these items as part of the deal.

Another useful addition to your life after the birth of your baby, and when you are comfortable in taking your child away from home or even leaving with grandparents overnight, is the travel cot. The travel cot is a smaller, more compact, version of your baby cot that will fold away for ease when travelling or storing your travel cot.

The next stage up from a baby cot is the cot bed, however expectant mothers need not worry just yet about the additional expense as most baby cots will be of sufficient size to last your child until the age of 5.
